In this tutorial i would like to gave an artistic HDR effect to my photo. Actually the photo is not mine, and the HDR effect is not really an HDR. The photograph belongs to tuktuk22, taken with a cellphone camera, and i will retouch it with Photoshop to give it an HDR look. Below is the befor-after look.
1. Open the photo in Photoshop. You can use your own photo.
2. In the original photo that i use, you can see a black shadowed area on the top right of the photo. Use Clone Stamp Tools to remove that area.
3. Balance the dark and bright area of the photo to get an HDR look with shadows/highlights adjustment tools. click Image > Adjustments > Shadows/Hightlights.
4. To get more detail of the photo, i use Topaz Adjust> Portrait Drama. This Plugin is very useful to speed up the editing process. Now the photo will look like this:
5. Reduce the saturation to get more natural color. Click Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.
6. For final touch add a Gradient Map adjustment layer. Click Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map.
7. Change the blending mode to softlight and lower the opacity to 21%
8. Thats it, its done. Next you can refine the color gradation of the sky if you want. Use your imagination and creativity..
